Glossary Rename

Substitute the text of glossary entries easily for more creative link-making

This fat web page contains the glossRename script object.

Use the 'Get Page Data' command from the Scripts menu to copy glossRename into your object database.

Also available: info about fat pages and the Terms under which you can use this script.

Being a creative link-writer

This script give you a little more room as a writer, allows you to refer to things not just by name, but descriptively. And you still get all the power of the glossary mechanism. For me, this means I won't have to bend my text to introduce (yet again) the Script Archive, instead, I can describe it as the beginnings of my own little electronic Alexandria.

Note: This script was updated on Jul 31, 1997 to add support for targeting. Because of this, this script requires two other scripts to be present: glossTarget() and glossPatcher().

Updated Aug 27, 1997 : Added support for mouseOver text, so you'll also need the mouseOver ()

Using the script

Grab the data from this fat page. Install at user.html.macros. Insert into your web page text like this:

{glossRename ("glossary item", "creative text to insert", "target Name", "text for mouseover")

Write a good link, insert your freshest words.

Modify and season this script to taste.

Enjoy.

This script has a cousin that does some related work with graphics.
